Move to Nurture

Move to Nurture is a dance class for those affected by cancer at any stage; at diagnosis, treatment stage and in remission.

These gentle yet energising dance classes will help you reconnect with your body, start to move freely and find joy in dancing with a supportive group.

Throughout the session you will be guided to move as little or as much as you want to. We may be seated, we may travel - the choice is yours!

We understand that sometimes you may just want to come, observe and be part of the group without dancing. That's absolutely fine.

Thanks to funding from South West Water's Neighbourhood Fund,  Move to Nurture sessions are free to anyone affected by cancer.

How long is a session?

A Move to Nurture session is 1.5hrs.

The moving/dancing section is 45mins and this is followed with time for tea/cofee and chatting!

What will I do?

We will gently warn up, exploring different dance movements and steps, while developing body confidence, mobility and strength.

Each session will have sequences and themes to help you uncover your inner dancer.

They'll be a combination of short sequences to learn and challenge your memory as well as time for free dance and guided improvisation. We will finish with a gentle cool down, stretch and relaxation.

What should I wear?

Wear whatever you can comfortably move in.

Bare feet or soft dance shoes  and remember to bring a water bottle.

Is the venue accessible?

Classes are held at Hartley House Dance Club  - PL1 5BA.

The dance studio and toilets are located on the ground floor - no stairs to climb!

There is on-street parking (2hrs) outside and in the surrounding streets.

Lovely class leaders... very responsive to individual requests. The music really helps you to remember the moves.

It has really helped my flexibility, hip pain and ankle pain. I am feeling so much better and have looked forward to these classes so much.

It’s nice at the end of class when we have a natter and a laugh.
